Lineages

A way of easily portraying ancestors without resorting to images or pedigrees is known as a lineage. Lineages are useful for quickly listing near ancestors. The standard format for a lineage is as follows:

Name by SIRE [sire's sire (grandsire x granddam) X sire's dam (grandsire x granddam)], out of DAM [dam's sire (grandsire x granddam) X dam's dam (grandsire x granddam)]

It can be used to show limited bloodline associations. As with pedigrees, the more detailed the lineage, the more difficult it is to read. This form is usually used in articles and other correspondances.
