Red and white Mahogany red Malamutes receive only red genes from their parents and can come in as wide a variety of shades. Undiluted, the red Malamute has all red guard hairs with very little white base and a buff undercoat; may have darker red trimming on the ears, elbows and hocks. Skin pigment is liver colored, and eyes are often a more golden shade. Often have prominent face markings (closed face/full mask) with or without white blaze, star or stripes. Breeder's Note: There is no black factor evident in the expressed coat color of the true red Malamute. A red Mal may very likely be homozygous for liver. The "dilute gene" or lack of it is responsible for the depth of color, it is amassed in totally seperate loci from the dominate or recessive genes.
