Finding Common Ground
Each year thousands of horses are bought with the best of intentions, however, a like number are quickly sold again! New owners find that their ideas of horse ownership do not match hard reality. Horse ownership requires time, money, and importantly, knowledge.
Understanding equine learning and behavior is the key to successful horsemanship and natural training enables horses to have a respectful attitude and proper ground manners, so you and your equine partner can experience a pleasant relationship.
Previously, in horse training little attention was directed toward the horse's mind. Interaction with humans creates stress for horses and if those stresses are prolonged, behavioral problems occur. When these problems arise the horse is often shuffled from one trainer/owner to another- returning again and again to the same conditions. Finally, labeled a "problem horse", neglected, abused, they and end up in the slaughterhouse.
Feeling, thinking, and remembering are all processes that affect an animal's overall well-being. To provide the best training, and handling methods for our horses, we need to understand horses reactions to their environment. The main goal of the Atlantea Society is to help make natural training knowledge available so it can be used to improve human/horse interactions.
